Weekend Picks for College Football Week 1

Alright college football fans, we are off and rolling! Thursday night was an exciting night with several nail biters and a few underachieving teams. With the playoff format, even these early season matchups can potentially impact who gets in or left out of the college football playoff. Detailed stats and information have been posted for every game this weekend. I’m giving you three picks for the weekend that use the computer team matchup comparison along with the known intangibles to form some solid picks.

Game 1:  Louisville vs Auburn  ( Auburn -10.5)

AuburnVsLoius

Auburn starts a new QB in Jeremy Johnson that should significantly open up the passing game. Look for Auburn RB JUCO transfer Jovon Robinson to have a breakout game against Louisville. Louisville lost a great deal on defense and will have many new faces. Louisville may have to depend on the run as they are breaking in a young QB. This should play right into Auburn’s hands. Take Auburn to cover the spread.

Game 2:   Virginia vs UCLA  (UCLA -19)

UCLAVsVirginia

UCLA will be breaking in a new QB, but the running game and defense are top notch talent. Virginia replaces all three LBs and have been weak on offense.  This will also be a tough road trip for Virginia. Take UCLA to cover the spread in this one.

Game 3: Ohio State vs Virginia Tech (Ohio St -13.5)

VTVsOhioSt

Virginia Tech has a great defense and will challenge Ohio State. Ohio State has more returning talent on both sides of the ball than any other team in the nation. Virginia Tech will find it extremely difficult to move the ball on Ohio State. Whether it is JT Barrett, Cardale Jones, or Braxton Miller in the wildcat, the Buckeyes will have too much for the Hokies. Even with the suspensions, Ohio State will cover the spread in this one as the revenge factor comes into play.
