Thursday (September 21st) – Temple Vs South Florida

Temple derailed South Florida’s hopes of a division title last year. Temple only returned 10 starters (4 on defense) while USF returned 16 starters ( 7 offense and 9 defense). The Bulls under new head coach Charlie Strong struggled a bit in their first two games, but found their groove last week rolling up 680 yards of offense against Illinois last week. There is a glaring mismatch in this game with the USF rush offense (4th) versus the Temple run defense (116th). USF QB Quinton Flowers should be able to move the ball at will on Temple. USF HC Charlie Strong is stressing defense to a much improved and experienced defensive group. USF will be looking to make a statement in the division opener and will cover the spread in this one. Line dropped all the way to 17.5.
Saturday (September 23rd) Wake Forest Vs Appalachian St

Appalachian State’s home field advantage comes into play when it gets cold. It won’t be cold for this game. This is another one of the lines where Vegas is way over doing the home field advantage. Wake Forest has played a much tougher schedule than Appalachian St (19th versus 114th)and has the advantage in almost every statistical category. Wake Forest matches up well against Appalachian St with it’s (25th) ranked rush offense versus Appalachian St’s (84th) ranked rush defense. Appalachian St will struggle against Wake Forest’s (16th) ranked rush defense and (38th) ranked pass defense. Look for Wake Forest to cover the spread in this one.
New Mexico Vs Tulsa

This line has ballooned towards Tulsa because New Mexico QB Lamar Jordon is out. New Mexico’s Backup QB Colin Gerhart, truth be known, is a much better passing QB and is also very mobile like Jordon. Tulsa is (123rd) in rush defense and (120th) in pass defense giving up 638 yards per game. The strength of Tulsa’s offense is it’s running game. New Mexico is only giving up 78 yards per game on the ground (29th ranked rush defense). Look for New Mexico to cover the spread in this one.
Southern Cal Vs California
(Vegas Southern Cal -16 ) (Game Picker Southern Cal by 15.03 )
Southern Cal is a bit banged up on defense, but has plenty of depth (Recruiting Factor of 9.0). There is a huge mismatch here with USC’s pass offense (17th) versus California’s pass defense (101st). USC has been running the ball at will this year as well (see the Stanford game stats). California leads with the pass but will be going up against USC’s (35th) ranked pass defense. Look for USC QB Sam Darnold to have a field day in this one after having played a couple really tough defenses the past couple of weeks. USC matches up very well against California and will cover the spread in this one.
