This will be the year that may cause the playoff to expand to 8 teams including 5 major conference champions and 3 at large bids. The playoff committee is in a very tough situation. Do you take a one loss, non conference champion,\u00a0 Alabama team or a two loss (including a very bad 30 point loss to Iowa) Ohio St that won their conference? Ohio St got the magic ticket last year jumping conference champion Penn St only to get thrashed 31-0 by Clemson. Alabama came within an eyelash of beating Clemson in the championship game last year. The 30 point loss to a bad Iowa team will be the sticking point that will be hard to explain if the committee decides to reverse course from last year and take the two loss conference champion over the one loss team.
