Week 2
(Saturday, September 12th ) – Syracuse Vs N. Carolina
(Vegas N. Carolina -21 ) (Game Picker N. Carolina by 33.82 )
N. Carolina will be returning 10 starters on offense including QB Sam Howell who passed for over 3600 yards his freshman year. N. Carolina really got it rolling late last year winning their last 3 games by an average of 40.7 points per game. N. Carolina also returns a solid defense with the only potential weakness being on the defensive line. Syracuse won’t be able to take advantage of the defensive line as their top two returning running backs will not be available for the game. N. Carolina will be able to roll offensively on Syracuse as the Orangemen only return 4 starters on defense. Look for N. Carolina to cover the spread in this one.
( Saturday, September 12th ) – GA Tech St Vs Florida St
(Vegas Florida St -12 ) (Game Picker Florida St by 19.70 )
Florida St returns 17 starters from last year and should be one of the most improved teams in the country this year under first year coach Mike Norvell. If you saw Memphis play last year, you will have an idea of how Norvell likes to take advantage of breakaway speed. There is plenty of returning talent at the offensive skill positions for Florida St including QB James Blackman and big WR target Tamorrion Terry. The Offensive line is always a concern for the Seminoles, but should be able to handle the undersized defensive line of Georgia Tech. Georgia Tech will be a much improved team with 19 starters returning from a 3-9 team last year. Most of Georgia Tech’s roster was recruited to run the option, but the offense now runs a spread under second year coach Geoff Collins. Look for Florida St’s talented offense to be the difference in this one as Florida St covers the spread at home.
( Saturday, September 12th ) – La Lafayette Vs Iowa St
(Vegas Iowa St -11 ) (Game Picker Iowa St by 21.62 )
Iowa St is one of the more talented teams that no one really knows much about. Offensively, Iowa St is a loaded team at QB, RB, and WR with the only question mark being the offensive line. With 8 starters back on defense, Iowa St should be able to slow down the La Lafayette running back tandem of Elijah Mitchell and Trey Ragas. Iowa St QB Brock Purdy had close to 4000 yards passing last year and should be able to move the ball efficiently on the Ragin’ Cajuns. Look for Iowa St to force La Lafayette to play catchup with it’s passing game and cover the spread in this one.
