Thursday 8/30 – Northwestern Vs Purdue Northwestern 31-27 Winner!
(Vegas Purdue -3 ) (Game Picker Northwestern by 11.07 )
All reports are that Northwestern’s QB Clayton Thorson will be ready for the opener. The Northwestern defense is much better than the Purdue defense returning a great DL and LB core. Northwestern also has a strong Offensive Line and receiving group returning that backed an offense that scored 29 points a game last season. Look for Northwestern to cover this Big 10 opener.
Friday 8/31 – San Diego St Vs Stanford Stanford 31-10 Winner!
(Vegas Stanford -14 ) (Game Picker Stanford by 26.13 )
This should be a mismatch with Stanford returning the 1st ranked RB and 4th ranked Offensive Line units in the nation. Stanford’s defense will be strong as well returning a strong LB and DB group. The reason the line is only 14.5 is that Stanford started slow last year which will be a major emphasis in preseason practice this fall. Look for Stanford to cover the spread in this one.
Saturday 9/1 – UMass Vs Boston College
(Vegas Boston College -17.5 ) (Game Picker Boston College by 27.2 ) Boston College 55-21 Winner!
This will be the 19th ranked team in the country vs the 106th ranked team in the country. The line is only 17.5 because BC does not have a proven QB. But with the 6th ranked O Line and 10th ranked RBs in the nation preseason, they should be able to run at will on a horrible UMass defense. BC returns a tremendous defense that will give UMass all kinds of problems on offense. UMass beat basically a high school team in Week 0. Boston College will use the game footage to be able to prepare this week. Look for BC to cover in this one.
Saturday 9/1 – Texas Vs Maryland
(Vegas Texas -10 ) (Game Picker Texas by 16.07 ) Maryland 34-29 Loss
Maryland will be playing inspired with the death of a player. However, the distractions with losing their coach during preseason fall practice will far outweigh the inspired play. Texas started slow last year, but Coach Herman will have that corrected regardless of the QB selected for the opener. The strengths and weaknesses will play to the Longhorns favor. Texas is loaded on the the DL line and LB. Maryland will be a run first team. Maryland’s weakness will be their DBs starting the season. Texas has a great situation at QB, O Line, and Receivers which will expose the Maryland defense. Look for Texas to cover in this game.
Saturday 9/1 – Boise St Vs Troy Boise St 56-20 Winner!
(Vegas Boise St -9.5 ) (Game Picker Boise St by 12.87 )
Troy had a great season last year going 11-2. Troy lost a great bit on defense and offense from last years team. Boise St returns all but one starter on defense. Boise also returns a veteran QB in SR Brett Rypien and a 1000 yard rusher in Alexander Mattison. Boise St will be sneaky good this year. Look for Boise St to cover the spread in this one.
